Historian and author Dr. David Bercuson addressed members in the Library, and read excerpts from his book and afterwards fielded questions from the audience. A recurring theme of member’s questions were focused on the break-down in the cohesion of the regimental family. The issue of leadership vacuum at the highest level of command were also raised. One member took issue with Dr. Bercussion’s research and conclusion regarding the restructuring of National Defence Headquarters. This lead to an animated discussion during a book signing folloing and excellent dinner. Dr. Bercuson emphasized the themes in his book, particulary the breakdown of military culture and the failure of leadership resulting in part from the civilianization of the Armed Forces and military values.
