CBC Newsworld Tease

During the summer of 1998, Capt Roberts noticed that at the top of the hour, CBC Newsworld was airing a 10 second segment where a Canadian appeared on camera. The person introduced themselves, told the audience where they lived, and what they were doing, finally they told the audience they were watching "CBC Newsworld". He also noticed that CBC Newsworld had not featured a member of the Canadian Forces, so he got in touch with a friend at the CBC. The friend give him the name of the person who was responsible for producing the clips. During a telephone conversation with the producer Roberts offered to provide the network with a Reserve soldier, and naturally it would be a member of The Toronto Scottish Regiment, all at no cost to the CBC. The CBC producer said he was interested in viewing the clip.

Having access to an expert Betacam camera operator, another member of the regiment, Roberts arranged to have the Regimental Sergeant Major, CWO Kevin Junor record the 10 second clip in the compound of Fort York Armoury. Eight takes were recorded, shot listed, and the tape was hand delivered to CBC Newsworld's studios in Toronto. The segment with the RSM was used for several months.
